Parking need-to-knows

Meters:
The meters can only be fed up to one hour, so if you are going to be parked longer, set your phone timer and don’t forget to go back and keep it current.
Parking Services catches meter expirations within seconds. Don’t think you have leeway.
The meters do not take pennies, just in case you are thinking you can empty out your piggy bank.
Garages:
The east garage is open the first week of school, so enjoy some free parking while you can.
Once entering the east garage with your garage pass, you won’t be allowed back in right away if you leave because you can’t find a spot. Be sure not to end up on the one-way road that exits the lot, because there is no way back in and you won’t get to circle around.
Lots:
Be prepared to take your time finding a space. Don’t show up on campus 15 minutes before your class starts and expect to have time.
Follow surface lot etiquette. Don’t cut in ‘line.’ Be decent.
Elmwood:
It gets dark at night. You cannot get an escort from security to your car because this is off campus. Be safe, make sure you are careful if you are walking to your car after dark.
If you park with other students down the long road, make sure to pull as far forward as you can. This makes for maximum space for everyone else, and we need to help each other out the best we can.
Also, park close to the curb. If you are parked more than a foot away from the curb, the city can ticket you.
IF you do get a parking ticket…
LEAVE it on your windshield the rest of the day. You cannot be issued more than one ticket for parking in the same space the same day. You have the fine now, might as well keep the space.
You can pay your ticket online. Find parking on the UNO website.
Parking Services can pardon one ticket per semester. Don’t be too quick to pay your fine, first visit or call Parking Services and see if they can help you.
If you get a notice that your car will be booted, this is not a bluff. Your car WILL be booted, and you will be required to pay all unpaid tickets to get the boot off. Try to avoid this.
Let the games begin!
May the odds be ever in your favor.
