The UNO women's basketball team hosted the No. 10 ranked Washburn Blues last Wednesday looking to redeem themselves from their three game losing streak. On Wednesday, the team made a trip to Pittsburg State (13-5, 8-3 MIAA), where the Gorillas handed the Mavs a 69-56 loss.
Senior forward Amanda Brodsack led the team by putting up 14 points and 12 rebounds. Senior Ashley Nelson and junior Alyssa Green both showed their scoring skills, shooting 10 points apiece, making three women for UNO in double digits.
Saturday night, the Mavericks took another downfall with a close two-point loss to No. 10 ranked Washburn University (15-3, 8-3 MIAA).
A late pour-on of points by Washburn gave the Lady Blues the 64-62 win, keeping them in the rankings.
Senior guard Cayla Hargrove led the Mavs in scoring with 18 points, followed by Brodsack with 16 points. Brodsack also tore down the boards, again, with eight rebounds.
Janice Bright led Washburn and all scorers with 25 points while teammate Jessica Mainz added 11.
The Mavs now host the Fort Hays State Tigers (8-9, 4-6 MIAA) tomorrow at 5:30 p.m. in the Sapp Fieldhouse.
