The Mavericks volleyball team secured its first league win Friday night as they defeated North Dakota State in a 3-0 sweep at the Sapp fieldhouse and faced a disappointing 3-1 loss against South Dakota State Sunday afternoon. The Mavericks record is now 6-14 and 1-4 in Summit League play.

Megan Schmale led the Mavericks against North Dakota State, recording nine kills and hitting .529 for the night. The Mavericks as a whole outplayed North Dakota State by almost every measure. They led as a team in assists, digs and blocks.

UNO got off to a quick start in the first, spurred by the serving of sophomore Bailey Baxter and never once lost the lead.

In the second set the Mavericks began with a 4-0 lead, but North Dakota fought its way back into a 7-7 tie. However UNO regained the lead quickly and ended the set 25-17.

The third set was close from the start with 16 ties and nine lead changes. Two late Kills by Wollack gave the Mavericks the lead and Amy Taylor, ended the match with a kill ending the game with a score of 25-22 and a sweep by the Mavericks.

The Mavericks continued league play Sunday afternoon at Sapp Fieldhouse, where they were beaten 3-1 by South Dakota State, winning the first set but lost the next three in a row. Three Mavericks finished with double doubles, Kelley Wollak, Bailey Baxter and Michaella Schimmer.

UNO travels to Denver on Friday to face the Summit League newcomer.
