Matt White, Preston Hodge and Alex Simonson of the UNO hockey team are all facing fallout from charges of disorderly conduct Aug 3 late night at a bar near 10th and Howard.
Matt White and Preston Hodge have been kicked off the team while Simonson is suspended and under investigation. On the Saturday night of Aug 3 police were called around 2 a.m. regarding a fight outside of Stadium Club on South 10th street and Howard.
Omaha Police say the altercation involved the players yelling “racial slurs and spouting epithets.” Then Hodge shoved a man, Lamar Triplett, who responded by hit hitting Hodge, who then fell to the ground.
White attempted to hit Triplett and Simonsen shoved opposing members with Triplett before Triplett was arrested for charges of misdemeanor assault. Hodge, White and Simonsen were arrested for disorderly conduct and Hodge was taken to the hospital where he was soon released.
The UNO Athletic Department held a conference Friday Aug 16 to announce a statement.
“After an internal investigation which included a discussion with the Omaha Police Department, Preston Hodge and Matt White have been dismissed from the UNO hockey team and are no longer on scholarship,” Athletic Director Trev Alberts said. “In addition, Alex Simonson has been suspended pending further investigation by the athletic department.”
Last year White finished fourth on the team in scoring and was entering his senior year as co-captain. Hodge played for Dubque University in Iowa.
“We will not tolerate any misconduct of this nature,” Alberts said. “We will continue to work diligently to ensure our student athletes understand the importance of tolerance and respect for others.”
