Senior Colby McCord signed a free agent deal with the Milwaukee Brewers last week and reported to their rookie team in Phoenix. In his UNO career, McCord finished ninth in career games played (163), 11th in doubles (33) and was a career .324 hitter.

At the conclusion of senior Colby McCord’s UNO career, the Papillion native ranked ninth all time in games played with 163 and served the Mavs at catcher, first base and even put in some time on the mound. In four years McCord posted a career .324 average, homered nine times and knocked in 77 runs.
But Major League Baseball didn’t come calling at the three-day draft June 24-26. It took a few extra weeks, but McCord’s talent and consistency were eventually recognized.
McCord inked a free agent deal with the Milwaukee Brewers and reported to the team’s rookie-level affiliate last week. The switch-hitting closer now takes his consistent bat and his major league hopes to the Arizona League Brewers in Phoenix.
As a senior McCord led UNO with a .366 average, homered three times and had 20 RBIs.
McCord also led the team with 27 runs scored and added 18 doubles to finish his career with 33 doubles, good enough for 11th all-time on the Mavs’ list.
McCord ended his final year with UNO on the College Sports Madness All-Independent First Team. In his career McCord was named to the MIAA Academic Honor Roll three times.
