Christian Garcia scores a goal to aid with their win

The University of Nebraska at Omaha hockey team swept conference opponent Denver University and the men’s soccer team won 3-0 on the road Sunday morning, topping this weekend in winning fashion on the road.

Two Mavs were big-time over the weekend, hockey’s Josh Archibald and soccer’s Christian Garcia.

Archibald scored two game winning goals over the weekend, both in overtime, including the goal Saturday that capped off a comeback effort after the Mavs fell 2-0 in the second period.

This Mavericks sweep is huge, marking UNO’s first ever win in Denver against the Pioneers, and the weekend wins puts UNO at 4-4-0 on the season and 2-0-0 in conference play, a great response after falling in last weekends home sweep against Cornell University.

Sunday morning the Mavs men’s soccer team rebounded from their heartbreaking opener on the new pitch at Caniglia Field with the help of the two Garcia’s (Christian and Chava, unrelated) in a 3-0 shut out against Eastern Illinois.

Christian Garcia netted two goals in the game, with the first one coming in the 25th minute and another in the second half, along with another score in the second by Chava Garica assisted by Christian.

Christian’s five points on the day ties a school record for most in a game.  Chava leads the team in points this season with nine total. Goalie Matt Grosey also had his third shutout of the season.

Men’s soccer has concluded road play for the year and will come home to face Fort Wayne and Incarnate Word.
