Derrin Hansen, head coach of the UNO men’s basketball team, will speak at the 2013 Iowa Energy Coach’s Clinic on Sept. 21 at the Iowa Events Center in Des Moines, Iowa.
Hansen is set to speak about secondary break and quick hitters.
“It’s always a privilege to talk about basketball and about your program and the success that it’s had,” Hansen said. “Just to see the coaches there, it’s invaluable here for us to speak about that.”
Hansen will be in company with NBA Hall of Fame member Alex English, along with college coaches from Buena Vista University and Grinnell college and Iowa Energy head coach Nate Bjorkgren.
English played 15 seasons in the NBA, drafted by Milwaukee and playing 10 seasons with the Denver Nuggets. The eight-time All-Star averaged 21.5 ppg in his career, averaging up to 28.4 in 1982-83 season.
“It will be fun and he’s a kid I looked up to, it will be fun to interact with him, pick his brain and that will help his program and help our players too,” Hansen said.
English was an assistant for the Sacramento Kings last season.
The Energy are a part of the NBA’s developmental league. The team is affiliated with the Chicago Bulls, Minnesota Timberwolves, Denver Nuggets, New Orleans Pelicans and Washington Wizards.
Admission to the event is $50 if registered before Sept. 20, or $75 at the door. Hansen believes the clinic is a good opportunity for UNO Men’s basketball to gain more exposure.
“[We’re] in the areas where we like to recruit and where we’re familiar. It’s going to be a good day.”
