A late goal by freshman Hannah Wampler with 20 seconds left in the match gave UNO a 3-2 victory Friday at South Dakota and gave Head Coach Dan Klosterman the 200th with of his career. His team rewarded him less than 48 hours later with his 201st win, 2-1 at UMKC.
Klosterman is in his 14th season at the helm of the women’s soccer program. The only coach in Maverick history has an exceptional 201-70-12 all-time record, good enough for a .747 winning percentage.
Klosterman’s Division II postseason record is equally as remarkable at 19-7 (.720). He has twice been named the NSCAA National Coach of the Year, and led the Mavs to the D-II national championship in 2005.
Wampler’s goal on Friday was her second of the match. Her two goals were the first of Wampler’s collegiate career.
Fellow freshmen and Lincoln Southeast graduate Morgan Westenburg also had the first goal of her career in the 3-2 victory. Senior Danielle Archuleta and junior Jordyn Braun had the goals in Sunday’s 2-1 win.
Although the Mavs went 0-10 in non-conference play, UNO has won three of their last four games. The recent surge of success has put the Mavs in a tie for first place with nine Summit League points.
Western Illinois and Oakland are 3-0, and Fort Wayne is three points behind at 2-1.
