LINCOLN, Neb. - UNO freshmen are working fewer hours than last year, while more seniors are working more, according to survey results announced at the University of Nebraska Board of Regents meeting on Friday.Only 33 percent of UNO freshmen reported working 20 or more hours per week, compared with 41 percent last year, according to results from the National Survey of Student Engagement. For seniors, 58 percent reported working at least 20 hours per week, up from 55 percent last year.
The survey also found that by the time they are seniors, 50 percent of UNO students have participated in community service or volunteer work, with 9 percent regularly participating in such service.
Almost half of the seniors polled - 48 percent - also said by their senior year, they had participated in some form of real-life learning through a practicum, internship, field experience, co-op or clinical assignment.
