While racing around in 8 ft. tall, inflatable hamster balls may sound like a nightmare for some students, other students found it to be an exciting way to spend the afternoon.  On Thursday, Sept. 12, Maverick Productions hosted a special event for students.  Two inflatable hamster balls were set up in the pep bowl for students to race around in through an obstacle course.

MavPro general programmers, Heba Elbard and Bailey Corbet, were responsible for the event.  “We wanted to plan an event that was unique and never done before at UNO, “ Corbet said. “We thought these races would be a way for students to be active and have fun between classes.”

Nearly 120 students participated in the races, with over 75 spectators.  These students pushed and ran inside their hamster balls the entire length of the pep bowl and back.

“The best part of the event was getting to see the students’ excitement for the event and watching them have fun while trying to maneuver the hamster balls, “ Corbett said. “It was very rewarding to see all of our hard work and planning pay off.”

If students missed their opportunity to try the hamster ball races, they may get a chance in the future.  MavPro now owns these hamster balls, so expect to see them again at future events.
