This Friday at the University of Nebraska at Omaha’s Volleyball game the crowd will appear as if they’ve fallen out of a time machine, as fraternity and sorority members attend the game dressed in Through the Decades themed attire for a Greek Out.

Hosted by the Panhellenic Council and Junior Panhellenic Council, the Greek Outs are games in which fraternity and sorority members show their maverick spirit by filling the stands in an attempt to drive student attendance up from the games.

UNO Athletics, Maverick  Productions, and Student Government partnered together this Saturday to host a tailgate and boost attendence for the first soccer game on the new field.

“Greeks are very spirited and passionate, so this seemed like a great opportunity to present a program that would help drive attendance back up,” said Kaitlyn Mohr, co-director for College Enrichment for PHC.

Greek Out dates have been established for women’s and men’s soccer and basketball and volleyball, with each game having a theme.

To add further support to the athletic deparment, tailgate exchanges between fraternities and sororities are planned before the games. Also, PHC has made posters for the games to encourage attendance.

“We feel that our organization has a large impact on our campus and so our hope is that hosting these events will eventually promote increased attendance campus-wide,” Mohr said. “This is a wonderful opportunity to change the culture of our campus.”

Beyond this Friday, the next Greek Out will be Nov. 23 for Women’s Basketball and Dec. 10 for Men’s Basketball.
