May 2 - The Omaha Community Playhouse presents Arthur Miller's "The Crucible," a chilling tale based in Puritan inhabited Salem, Mass. about witchcraft allegations of the townspeople. The show runs until June 1.
May 15 - Spoken word artist Nebraska will be at the Loves Jazz and Arts center as part of its "Poetry in Motion" showcase. The performance starts at 7:30 p.m. with an open mic session at 6:30 p.m. The event costs $4 for non-members.
May 16 & May 17 - Maestro Wilkins and the Omaha orchestra pay their respects to the highly acclaimed American film composer John Williams. Williams has composed the music for almost 80 films - most notably "Star Wars," "Jaws" and "Superman" - and has earned numerous Academy and Grammy Awards. This two-day event takes place in the Kiewit Concert Hall of the Holland Performing Arts Center. Ticket costs range from $15 to $80.
May 17 - New York City's longest running improv act, Chicago City Limits, plays at the Holland Performing Arts Center for an evening of hysterics. Their "PG-Rated" is at 7 p.m. and the adults-only act goes on at 9 p.m.
May 18 - The Qwest Center hosts its first-ever WWE pay-per-view event, "Judgment Day," starring everyone's favorite spandex-clad warriors of the squared circle. "Judgment" begins at 6:45 p.m. with tickets ranging from $50 to $250.
May 19 - Omaha originals and Saddle Creek superstars Cursive rock skulls at Slowdown. The show, featuring mostly-new material will be supported by Landing on the Moon. Tickets are $12.
May 20 & May 21 - Sultry disco-pop goddess Jenny Lewis and the rest of Rilo Kiley return to Omaha for a two-night stand at Slowdown. Opening are The Spinto Band and Nik Freitas. Tickets are $18.
June 3 - Buckethead, one of America's fastest and most eccentric guitarists, is headed to the Waiting Room for an evening of pure freakadelics. Up-and-coming one man band That 1 Guy is scheduled to open. Tickets are $22 with doors at 8 p.m.
June 5 through June 8 - The quiet adjacent town of Lawrence, Kan., is hosting the annual Wakarusa Music Festival. The lineup is a melting pot of diverse acts including The Flaming Lips, CAKE, Zappa Plays Zappa, Ben Folds, Emmylou Harris and more. Omaha's own Tilly and the Wall is also on the bill. Tickets are $159 for a four-day pass and single day passes are $49 in advance and $60 at the gate.
June 7 - Twenty artists are designing limited edition t-shirts for sale at the Image Market Art Show hosted by Hot Shops. All of the proceeds are to go to the Ronald McDonald foundation. The event runs from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m.
June 7 - Dweezil Zappa, son of legendary and accomplished American composer Frank Zappa, comes to Omaha for an intimate outing at Joslyn Art Museum's Witherspoon Hall. The younger Zappa will be joined by some veterans of Frank's old bands as well as young, talented newcomers. Tickets range from $32-$72.
June 18 - After being disbanded for over 25 years, legendary jazz-rock masterminds Return to Forever, led by keyboardist Chick Korea, will make a stop at the Holland Performing Arts Center. Tickets range from $51.50 to $61.50 with VIP packages that range from $239 to $379.
June 29 to July 6 - Thousands will pack the Qwest Center to see which Americans will represent the United States in the 2008 Olympics in Beijing. Tickets range from $275-$475.
July 5 - Crystal Forge of the Hot Shops art gallery and workshop hosts a home brewing contest. Locally home crafted beers, wines and ciders are eligible. Entry forms can be printed off at hotshopsartcenter.com. Judging begins at 5 p.m.
July 12 - Leslie Feist, writer of the highly addictive song "1234" will grace Omaha for it's annual free concert at Memorial Park. Times and other acts to be announced at a later date.
July 20 - The Qwest Center hosts an evening of classic ballads and sing-a-longs from one of the most revered classic rocker of all time, Tom Petty. Petty and his band will be joined by Traffic's Steve Winwood. The show is at 7:30 p.m. and tickets range from $53-$97.
July 20 - Aaron Freeman and Mickey Melchiando, a.k.a. Gene and Dean Ween, make a stop at Harrah's Stir Concert Cove as part of its summer concert series. Ween is best known for their genre spanning, imaginatively written rock songs and lengthy live shows. Tickets are $25.
Aug. 8 - The Crazy Eights and 88 Lesser Themes, touted as "the art event of the summer," features original works from Mike Scheef, Joel Holm, Derek Courtney, Kim Kuhn and over 100 other local, national and international artists. The event is located at the Hot Shots art gallery and workshop. The event starts at 8 p.m.
