Regents to meet Friday, discuss UNO student fees

The University of Nebraska Board of Regents will meet Friday to discuss an agenda including more than $1 million in UNO student fee increases. Student room and board rates, as well as a contract for parking at Crossroads Mall, are also on the agenda. University officials are asking that the Fund B University Program and Facilities Fee be increased 22.

Senate: No to smoking ban

UNO smokers do not have to worry about their favorite smoking place being taken away from them after the Student Senate snuffed out a resolution that would have proposed further restrictions on campus. The resolution, sponsored by Sen. Holly Byers, designated smoking areas on campus in order to cut down on maintenance costs and improve the health of the campus community.

Student charged with possession, not in custody

On April 8, a UNO student was booked into the Douglas County Department of Corrections after being stopped at UNO by Campus Security. On Sunday, officials at the department of corrections confirmed that Jeffery Malashock, 18, had been released. He was reported to Omaha police after being observed driving erratically in parking lots on UNO's Dodge Street campus, "near the parking garage," according to a police incident report.

Colorful traditional Native American dress, beating drums and thunderous voices filled the Sapp Fieldhouse on Saturday where students and community members participated in UNO's tenth annual pow wow. More than 200 people joined in the celebration which had a theme of "Honor the Youth.
