Students at UNO are certainly no stranger to being in the red financially. However, with a new student section sponsorship by Metro Credit Union, students will soon start seeing red and black at Maverick athletic events. "We wanted to be able to help the university out with the student section about doing more on campus," said Danielle Ostronic, business partnership director for MCU.

Man arrested in Criss Library for possession of child pornography
A man was arrested last Monday in the university library for allegedly viewing child pornography on one of the library's computers, according to a police report and Campus Security crime log. The man, 32-year-old Charles Illingworth, is a level three registered sex offender and not affiliated with the university, said Paul Kosel, assistant manager of Campus Security.

Old, new faces fill key positions This summer saw a lot of appointments and confirmations for vacancies created by last summer's controversy surrounding the athletic program budget. That controversy eventually saw the resignation of former chancellor Nancy Belck, former vice chancellor for administration Jim Buck and former athletic director David Herbster.

The four-day festival of events introduces incoming students to the campus as well as updates returning students about what is open to them in the new school year. Former NU Regent Robert Prokop is suing the state for what he calls negligence and deliberate failure within the Nebraska Accountability and Disclosure Committee during last year's regents election. "The rules as set down by the Nebraska Accountability and Disclosure Commission were ignored and falsely interpreted by the Commission's employees," according to Prokop's complaint, filed July 23, in Lancaster County court.

Lincoln based student-loan company Nelnet announced on Aug. 10 that it would be paying the original $1 million agreement it had made with Nebraska Attorney General Jon Bruning, despite Bruning absolving the company of the payment. Last year's pilot run of a newspaper program similar to UNL's went smoothly and showed there was an interest on campus in having current events provided to students on a daily basis.
