"As a signatory of the declaration, we further move the university forward in a positive light and resume our role as community leader and as an example to which other universities may aspire," Bonet said.

The movement to make the campus a signatory of the declaration is still in the initial stages. The Environmental Club of UNO is still campaigning for awareness and support from UNO students, faculty and staff.

"Awareness is key to forwarding the mission of EC-UNO and to bring more [environmentally] sustainable practices to campus. Support comes only after awareness is created. Upon gaining further support from students, faculty and staff, we will best be in a position to communicate our desire to see a green UNO to university administration," Bonet said.

To build initial support for its goals, the club is currently hosting events that are aimed at raising awareness about environmental issues around campus and in the greater community. They host regular movie screenings and meet every Monday at 7:30 p.m. in the Jenkins Room of the Milo Bail Student Center.
