With Valentine’s Day slowly creeping up, it would be wise for all of you procrastinators to start planning now. Otherwise, you’ll find yourself stuck waiting 30 minutes for a table at Applebee’s. Or, in a movie theatre sitting rows away from your date, because you got the only two seats left in the theatre.
This year, beat the crowds and woo your valentine with a not-so-typical night of romance. The Joslyn Art Museum will be hosting a special night of food, cocktails and art on Thursday, Feb. 14 at 6pm.
The night will begin with cocktails and hors d’oeuvres in the elegant, romantic 1931 fountain court. Hors d’oeuvres will include sesame chicken with plum sauce, bacon wrapped water chestnuts, stuffed mushroom caps with sausage, fruits, vegetables, cheeses and dessert bars. While you enjoy your tasty drinks and appetizers in the beautiful courtyard, you and your valentine will be serenaded by jazz guitarist Dan Livingston.
If the drinks, music and appetizers don’t please your date, at 7 p.m., guests will be invited to tour the works of digital artist, Jennifer Steinkamp. Her magnificent work is sure to impress. Steinkamp’s work is powered by projectors that utilize architectural spaces and digital art animations. Her pieces literally light up the room.
There’s no need to buy flowers, because the art exhibit features a sixty-foot wide projection, named Madame Curie, of a twisting, turning floral procession. These amazing works are sure to provide a unique and interactive experience.
You’ll need to make advance reservations for this impressive night of romance. For Joslyn members, tickets are $25, for the general public, $35. Included with your ticket are all of the food, festivities and one free drink. There will be a cash bar available for additional cocktails.
Reservations can be made at joslyn.org or by contacting Joslyn’s director of adult programs at 402-661-3862 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
